Podiatry & Chiropody
We run a chiropody clinic at our Bridge Street practice 5 days a week and can also offer home visits and visit various Nursing Homes in and around the Taunton area.
Podiatry and chiropody appointments usually include 30 minutes of treating a wide range of Podiatric issues.
These problems range from:
- Nail Cutting
- Ingrown toenails
- Corn and Callus removal
- Verrucae removal
- Fungal nails
- Fissures
- Skin infections
We have 10 practitioners all of whom have completed a 3 year, full-time course and are HCPC registered. We are licensed to use local anaesthetic as necessary. Made-to-measure insoles and appliances can be made on-site.
Cushioning for Feet
Curacorn ®
Curacorn ®, is an innovative method of introducing extra cushioning under tender areas of the foot, for example, under painful corns and areas where the fatty pad is less than normal. The filler used is a sterile Hyaluronic Acid Gel which has a decades long safety record and is painlessly injected fairly superficially into the skin under local anaesthetic.
Cushioning for Feet (Dermal Fillers) are ideal for:
- Painful corns
- Patients with loss of fatty pad tissue
- Patients who like to wear high heels
The procedure is virtually painless and uneventful although it does involve injecting local anaesthetic into the side of the ankle.
As with all minor surgical procedures there can be no guarantee of success but some patients get many months of pain relief not easily helped by conventional methods.
Treatment Cost: From £95 per injection

Swift Treatment
Treating Verrucas
Verrucas are warts located on the feet, caused by viral infection. We offer Swift microwave therapy as one of our treatment options for verrucas. Swift microwave therapy is the most effective treatment available and is the current gold standard. Treatment is fast and requires no anesthetic.
Swift Treatment Prices
A course of treatments is carried out over 3 appointments, spaced 4 weeks apart.

Initial Treatment (1st appointment): £230
Additional appointments: £72, or £92 if local anaesthetic is needed.

Chemical Lysis
Fungal Nail Treatments
Fungal nails appear thick, brittle and discoloured. As the infection resides on the skin under the nail, most topical treatments have low success rates – the lacquer cannot penetrate the thick nail. Traditionally it has been difficult to test for the presence a fungal nail infection, though recently a 5 min test has been developed. It is available at our clinic at a cost of £40.
Fungal nail infections are one of the most difficult conditions to treat. After years of trial and error of many treatments, we find chemical lysis to be the most successful (however not guaranteed). We apply 40% urea to the nail for a set number of weeks to painlessly temporarily remove the nail. This allows us to use anti-fungal products directly onto the infected nail bed.
Treatment costs:
- Appointment – £48
- Urea – £11
- Lamisil Spray – £9
- Amorolfine – £18
Nail Surgery
Ingrown Toe Nail Treatments
Ingrown toe nails can be extremely painful. They grow into the side of the toe and can create wounds and lesions which are susceptible to infections.
We can offer conservative treatment to clear the ingrown nail and to avoid surgery if we can. This can make the nail much more comfortable, however the nail usually comes back ingrown.
The next option is nail surgery. We can offer Partial Nail Avulsions (PNA) to remove only the affected part of the nail or Total Nail Avulsions (TNA) to remove the whole nail. We do this under local anaesthetic and with the use of phenol to prevent regrowth. All dressings are supplied and any antibiotics if there are signs of infection.
Treatment Package costs: £450
Includes:
- Appointment
- Dressings
- Antibiotics (if needed)
- Follow up appointment related to the affected surgical site
- Laser therapy – to promote healing

Podiatry
Home Visits & GP Surgeries
Part of our service is to provide home visits to care-homes in the community as well as to individuals unable to visit the clinic. We can offer:
- Nail cutting and thinning
- Callus and corn removal
- Diabetic foot checks
- Ingrown toe nail treatment
- Ulcer prevention checks and treatment
- Regular neuromuscular checks
These are all necessary because foot care is very important. As people get older, our foot health can deteriorate. The presence of callus, corns, thickened and ingrown nails can be firstly, very painful and uncomfortable but they also put patients at greater risk of ulcerations. Ulcerations are wounds to the feet that have potential to encourage infection and in extreme cases, problems such as sepsis.
